A public university, Western Norway University of Applied Sciences, has departments for engineering, humanities, teaching, sports, economics, and management. The abbreviation for its Norwegian name, Hogskulen p Vestlandet, is HVL. Five campuses (Bergen, Forde, Haugesund, Sogndal, and Stord) make up the big institution known as HVL.
