Lviv Polytechnic National University, one of the largest polytechnic institutes in the nation, was founded in 1816 and is the oldest technical university in Ukraine. It has a student body of about 30,000. During the nineteenth century, the institution developed as a hub for scientific and technological research. Lviv Polytechnic National University, along with Warsaw University of Technology, later rose to prominence as one of central Europe’s most renowned technical universities during the interbellum era. President Ignacy Mocicki presented the university with the Order Polonia Restituta in 1936 in recognition of its excellent contributions to education. Currently, the university has 114 departments spread among 16 academic institutes, each of which is independent. Prospective students must pass an admission exam in order to enrol in the university’s Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral Degree programmes. There have been some exceptionally notable academics who have worked or taught at Lviv Polytechnic National University during the institution’s lengthy existence. Professor Kazimierz Bartel, who was the Polish Prime Minister for three terms prior to accepting a position at the institution, as well as other professors like the mathematician Wodzimierz Stoek and Stefan Brya, the architect of the first welded road bridge. Former Polish prime minister Wadysaw Sikorski is one of the noteworthy ex-students of Lviv Polytechnic National University, along with other Polish and Ukrainian leaders. Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj, the president of Mongolia, and Tatiana Anodina, the chairwoman of the Interstate Aviation Committee, are also former students at the institution.
