The Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń is one of Poland’s biggest universities, now has 16 faculties (including 3 medical faculties at Collegium Medicum UMK in Bydgoszcz). It offers instruction in more than 100 subjects of study, 55 postgraduate programmes, and graduate courses to 18 331 students. On its campuses in Toru and Bydgoszcz, the university employs 4453 people, more than half of them are academic teachers. There are currently about 200 000 NCU graduates. Modern teaching facilities at NCU include, among others, Collegium Humanisticum and the brand-new University Sports Centre. State-of-the-art research infrastructure is also available, including the National Laboratory of Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics (FAMO), the Center for Quantum Optics, and the Interdisciplinary Center for Modern Technologies, to name a few. Located next to Toru at the Centre for Astronomy is a distinctive 32-meter radio telescope. NCU Polar Station is located in the Arctic Sea on the island of Spitsbergen. The Polish Historical Mission at the University of Würzburg has also been formed by the university. Researchers at NCU can be proud of a number of outstanding accomplishments, including the design and fabrication of an Optical Coherence Tomography apparatus, a cutting-edge tool for medical eye exams.
