One of Poland’s most prestigious and top-ranked technical universities is the Silesian University of Technology (SUT). It is a cutting-edge institution of higher learning with 76 years of science, research, and pedagogic tradition. The majority of the more than 17 000 students SUT educates today are majoring in engineering, technology, and architecture at all three levels of study (bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral). All of the classes are taught by 1,600 academic lecturers who are highly educated university staff members and take place in contemporary labs and lecture halls. Eleven faculty make up the Silesian University of Technology, which is based in Gliwice. There are other faculties in Katowice and Zabrze. We have the results of the first competition under the “Initiative of Excellence – Research University” program. The aim of the competition was to select and support the universities which will strive to achieve the status of a research university and will be able to successfully compete with the best academic centers in Europe and worldwide. Out of the 20 best universities in Poland, eligible to participate in the competition, an international team of experts selected 10 universities, which will receive a subsidy increased by 10% over the period 2020 and 2026. The Silesian University of Technology is among the universities, under the competition will receive a total of nearly 245,000,000.00 PLN within 7 years.
