Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences

SLU is a top-tier institution for studying life and environmental sciences. Agriculture sciences, veterinary medicine, natural resources and the environment, rural development, and landscape architecture are all areas of specialisation at SLU. SLU pursues problem-oriented research centred on the needs of its stakeholders in addition to basic research. The only faculty in Sweden with the capability to conduct cutting-edge, extensive research with cattle, pigs, horses, and poultry, as well as clinical research with these species plus dogs and cats, is the faculty of veterinary medicine and animal science. Understanding animal diseases, their causes, and methods of transmission can help us better comprehend human illnesses. The Faculty is unusual not just in Sweden since it combines veterinary medicine and animal science, and it offers outstanding opportunities for transdisciplinary research and instruction. We work with most facets of an animal’s life and health at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Sciences, including farm animals, pets, sports animals, and wildlife. We cover a wide range of topics, including animal husbandry, animal health, and welfare, as well as public health, food safety, and food quality. We conduct research in all of these areas and provide undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate education. The SLU Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science’s mission is to promote the ethical and responsible use of animals for improved food security and public health. The majority of domestic animals’ needs and welfare are being met by our efforts. This holds true for farm animals, as well as for companion animals, research animals, and animals used in sports. Animal health, animal husbandry, animal welfare, biomedicine, genetics and breeding, and veterinary public health are our primary research and teaching focus areas.
