The lone college or university in the city is the University of Dunajváros, which offers high-level, practice-oriented instruction in the social sciences, technology, and engineering teacher preparation. The Technical School of Metallurgy and Mechanical Engineering, the university’s forerunner, was established in 1953 to provide training for local heavy industry workers. The University of Dunajváros finally reached its current organisational structure in 2016 after going through numerous stages of integration over the years. As of this writing, it consists of three university institutions and a teacher training centre. For more than 2000 students, the university provides a variety of degree programmes at the bachelor’s and master’s levels. The academic programmes include mechanical and material sciences engineering as well as other branches of engineering, information technology, and different social sciences. Media and communication sciences, as well as economics. The university maintains good relationships with a number of sizable businesses in the area, which offer a wide range of internship opportunities in the majority of academic subjects. The institution also provides programmes in nuclear energy in collaboration with the Paks Nuclear Power Plant, the only active nuclear plant station in Hungary. Students come from more than 35 different countries and can select from 6 Bachelor’s programmes and 2 Master’s programmes in English, including BSc programmes in technical management and business administration and MA programmes in engineering teacher training. Both the BSc and MSc versions of the Mechanical Engineering programme are offered in English.
