The University of Santiago de Compostela, comprised of the campuses in Santiago de Compostela and Lugo, is a public institution for higher education and research endowed with autonomy, full legal personality, and its own heritage. It assumes and executes its responsibilities as an essential public service to the community through study, teaching, research, and the transfer of knowledge. The USC is a member of the Galician University System (SUG) and is organised democratically to ensure the involvement of various university community sectors in its governance. As a public administration, the USC is governed by the principles of legality, effectiveness, efficiency, transparency, and quality. According to Complutense University of Madrid and the IAIF, the university is ranked fifth overall in Spain and fourth among public universities. There are 10 degrees available in the arts and humanities, 9 degrees in science (offered at the Santiago Campus), 10 degrees in health science, 21 degrees in social science and law, and 10 degrees in engineering and architecture. 68 master’s degrees are available through USC’s academic programme, with 11 in the humanities and arts, 12 in science, 15 in health sciences, 23 in social sciences and law, and 10 in engineering and architecture. Most master’s degrees require 60 ECTS or one year to complete.
