History of Business Analysis

Business analysis has been practised since the Mesolithic era (Middle of the Old Stone Age). Our forefathers learned adaptation methods to modify natural environments and began to use innovation based on their understanding of problems and opportunities. This offshoot of applied knowledge has been practised daily, knowingly or unknowingly, throughout the Neolithic era, Bronze Age, Iron Age, and after the flourishing of modern civilisation.
Aristotle (382-322 B.C.) stated that division and departmentalisation of labour is something that society and business have suggested hypotheses and solutions for. These theories and remedies are critical components of Business Analysis and are responsible for mapping, reengineering, or modifying processes.
Adam Smith authored the first instance of a business process, the manufacture of a pin, in 1776. He demonstrated how, by trying to identify the steps in the process, one could use division of labour to improve product quality and speed of production.
